Travel agents are expected to know about more areas of the world, more travel interests and more travel bargains. Travel agents are employed by travel agencies, and those who work independently have generally gained experience in such agencies before starting their own businesses. Travel agents often work under high pressure, as constantly fluctuating prices in the industry and regulations regarding transportation require constant research. Travel agents are a God-send when you have not travelled to a destination in some time. Particularly, an agent who specializes in destinations that interest you.

Travel agents are flexible and will readily answer all your questions concerning your language holiday. Advisory services and special events prior to your language learning trip are often advertised and provided by most of the agencies. Travel agents are in direct contact with airlines, train lines, and bus services so they can find out if there is space available as well as the best price for the ticket. They can also contact charter services, as it may be cheaper to travel this way for larger groups. Travel agents are agents of the travel providers, receiving commissions from the travel providers for sales they make. These commissions vary and are established between individual travel agents and travel providers.

Travel agents are also often willing to consult ticket consolidators on your behalf, which offer discounted flights not available on airline websites or online travel agencies. Travel agents aren't going the way of the eight-track tape just yet. Most travel agents are continually learning about destinations and suppliers; who to work with and who not to work with. They are there and they work for you. Travel Agents are experts in helping tourist with how to move within the country, where to stay & what to do. By helping the customer select the right hotel, connecting them with the correct means of transportation along with the offering them the perfect way to spend their free time we make their vacation experience memorable.

Online travel agencies such as Orbitz.com, Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, and Priceline.com gather airline tickets, hotel rooms, car rentals, and cruises into one-stop shopping sites. Online bookings currently account for 9% of all hotel stays, while offline travel agents, like Citron, account for about 25%, according to the ASTA's Web site . But the online bookings are growing, while the numbers for travel agents are dropping. Online travel portals such as Cleartrip, Makemytrip and Yatra continue to show flights operating that day. International operations will not be affected.
